Safe Handling & Storage

Lifting and Moving

  • Always lift using your legs to avoid back injury; the material is substantial in weight.
  • For larger slabs, employ professional suction cup lifters designed for natural stone.
  • Transport packages on a stable, flat dolly—never drag pieces across each other or abrasive surfaces.

Proper Storage Conditions

  • Store material flat in a dry, indoor environment.
  • Protect from moisture and extreme temperature fluctuations until installation begins.

Preparing the Substrate

Critical Foundation Requirements

The long-term integrity of the installation depends entirely on the subfloor preparation. The substrate must be:

  • Structurally Sound: Completely rigid with no flexing.
  • Clean and Dry: Free of dust, debris, and moisture.
  • Perfectly Level: With no more than 1/8 inch deviation over a 10-foot span.

Recommended Subfloor Enhancements

  • Install cement backer board over wooden subfloors to create a stable surface.
  • Apply a crack isolation membrane if there is any concern about movement or existing cracks transferring.

The Installation Process

Dry Layout and Planning

  • Arrange tiles without adhesive first to plan the layout and minimize cuts in prominent areas.
  • Orient the dynamic veining for a visually harmonious flow across the entry hall space.

Setting the Material

  1. Apply a consistent layer of flexible, white thin-set mortar suitable for marble using a notched trowel.
  2. Lightly "butter" the back of each piece for optimal adhesion.
  3. Set each tile firmly into place, using spacers to maintain uniform joints (typically 1/8 inch).
  4. Continuously check for level with a straightedge during installation.

Cutting and Fitting

Using the Right Tools

  • Make all cuts with a wet saw fitted with a continuous-rim diamond blade to preserve clean edges and minimize chipping.
  • Always wear appropriate safety gear, including goggles and gloves.

For Complex Cuts

  • Create precise paper templates for intricate cuts around doorways, vents, or other fixtures before making final cuts on the material.

Grouting and Sealing

Applying Grout

After the adhesive has fully cured (allow 24-48 hours):

  1. Apply grout formulated for natural stone using a rubber float held at an angle.
  2. Clean excess grout haze from the surface promptly with clean water before it dries.

The Crucial Sealing Step

Once completely dry (typically after 72 hours):

  1. Apply two coats of an impregnating (penetrating) sealer designed specifically for polished or honed calcareous stone.
  2. This vital protection guards against stains from common entryway spills like water, dirt, or salts.
  3. Reapply sealer as per the manufacturer's instructions—usually every 1 to 3 years—to maintain protection.

Long-Term Care & Maintenance

Daily Cleaning Routine

Clean regularly using only pH-neutral cleaners made for natural stone. Avoid all acidic cleaners (vinegar, lemon juice), harsh chemicals, or abrasive pads that can dull or etch polished surfaces immediately wipe up any spills especially those from wine oils coffee or acidic substances

Protecting Your Investment

Place protective felt pads under all furniture legs Use quality walk-off mats at entryways to trap abrasive dirt sand grit before it reaches floor surface
