Inspect Immediately: Upon delivery, carefully check all packages for damage, moisture, or broken corners.
Blend Natural Variations: Open multiple boxes and dry-lay tiles to blend the inherent shade and veining variations of natural marble for a cohesive final appearance.
Handle with Care: Transport packages using a dolly or cart. Never drag boxes across floors.
Proper Storage: Store unopened boxes flat in a dry, indoor, climate-controlled environment.
Safe Unboxing and Subfloor Preparation
Open On-Site: Unbox one package at a time in the installation area.
Protect Yourself: Wear cut-resistant gloves when handling tiles due to sharp edges. Lift each heavy tile using your legs, not your back.
Prepare the Subfloor: The subfloor must be structurally sound, perfectly clean, dry, and flat (within 1/8 inch over 10 feet). For concrete slabs, perform a moisture test.
Professional Installation Process
Layout and Cutting
Find the center of the room and snap chalk lines as guides.
Perform a complete dry layout without mortar to finalize the pattern.
Make necessary cuts at room edges using a wet saw equipped with a diamond blade suitable for marble.
Mortar Application and Setting
Use a premium-quality, flexible thin-set mortar rated for large-format natural stone.
Apply mortar evenly with the flat side of your trowel.
Comb the mortar in one direction using a notched trowel (a 1/4" x 3/8" notch is recommended).
Press each tile firmly into place with a slight twisting motion to ensure full contact and optimal adhesion.
Finishing & Protection
Grouting Guidelines
Select grout based on your joint width:
Use unsanded grout for joints less than 1/8 inch.
Use sanded grout for wider joints.
Important Note: Always test dark-colored grouts on spare tile pieces first to ensure they do not stain light-colored marble veins.
Sealing Your Investment
After the grout has fully cured (typically 72 hours), apply a high-quality penetrating sealer specifically formulated for calcareous stones like marble. This crucial step must be completed before moving any furniture onto the floor.
Post-Installation Care
Allow adequate time for materials to cure properly:
Let thin-set mortar cure completely (24-48 hours minimum) before walking lightly on the surface.
Avoid placing heavy furniture or appliances on the new floor for at least 72 hours after grouting is complete to prevent shifting or cracking during this critical period.
